TRAVEL AND LOGISTICS:

Getting Here: We usually fly on KLM or Air France from New York (JFK). The flights all fly via either Paris or Amsterdam (we love Amsterdam thanks to the Noodle Bar and the stroopwafels). Then you will fly either KLM or KQ to Nairobi (NBO). Seriously though, Sas is OBSESSED with Kiosk Sushi & Noodles in Terminal E at Schiphol, you gotta get some. She will forgo the lounge for a bowl of steaming ramen here.

Airport Transfers: There are many official airport taxis, but it’s often best to arrange a taxi in advance with your selected hotel to pick you up from NBO. If the hotel arranges, they will greet you with a sign with your name on it. Otherwise, Uber works or AirCab is the yellow taxi service. Avoid the guys trying to offer you a ride and negotiating a deal. For our trip to the Maasai Mara, we will be organizing bus transport from your hotel to Wilson Airport.

Vaccines: Please view the full list of vaccines needed and check with your doctor https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/kenya

*very important* Make sure to bring your yellow fever card because it is required to get into the country. Think of it as a second passport!

Travel Insurance: For piece of mind, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. We purchase it for every trip we take. World Nomads offers competitive rates and it's easy to buy! Just enter in how long you'll be traveling and they'll send you a custom quote immediately.

Visa: You will be able to either buy a Visa in advance using the e-Visa system (http://evisa.go.ke/evisa.html) or simply bring cash and buy a Visa upon arrival. A single-entry visa is the one you will likely want, and it’s $50 USD.

Money: While there is an ATM at the airport where you can pull out USD, it’s always safe to come with $200 or $300 USD (just to be safe for Visa’s if you want to travel around another country, etc.)

What to Pack: See dress code on our Events page. Important: there is a luggage limit of 15kg for the safari portion of our trip so pack an extra duffle bag or carry-on. You can leave your remaining luggage with your respective Nairobi hotel.
